Robert Ioanna serves as the Chief Technical Officer and a board member at Syska Hennessy Group, where he leads all aspects of the firm’s technical and commercial delivery. He also oversees Syska Innovations, a wholly owned subsidiary of Syska Hennessy Group.
A strong proponent of indoor air quality, energy conservation, sustainability, and wellness, Rob drives his team to remain at the forefront of developments in artificial intelligence and related technologies.
Rob founded Syska Innovations with the original intent of investing in seed-stage companies and piloting their software and products. Over time, he expanded the initiative to foster ideation and technological development within Syska. One of the companies partnered through this program, HVAC Manufacturing and Technology, earned the prestigious 2024 AHR Expo Innovation Award in the Ventilation category.
Recognized as an industry leader, Rob has received numerous honors, including ENR’s Top 20 Under 40, Building Design & Construction’s Top 40 Under 40, BuiltWorlds’ Tech Adoption Leaders Top 50, and NYREJ’s Top CRE Innovators to Watch. He is a frequent speaker at national conferences and a published author on topics shaping the built environment.
A licensed Professional Engineer in multiple states and a LEED Accredited Professional, Rob earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Binghamton University. He is actively involved in organizations such as BOMA, 7×24 Exchange International, the New York City Building Congress, CoreNet, and ACE Mentoring. He serves on several university advisory boards, contributes to NYC’s Local Law 97 working group, and advises the ASHRAE NYC Board.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Rob is committed to community engagement and supports autism awareness and education initiatives. He is married with two children and enjoys golfing, coaching basketball, and fishing—once making local news for capturing footage of a humpback whale in the Long Island Sound.
