Project Overview

Northern Trust, Chicago, Illinois

With over $1.0 trillion in assets under management, Northern Trust has been one of the world’s leading financial institutions for over a century. As part of on their ongoing workplace modernization and consolidation, they have leased over 490,000 square feet of space across 17 floors in downtown Chicago to support various internal and client facing groups. The new space provides a modern open plan workspace for Northern employees including various amenities such as central social hubs, flexible workstations, client conference center, IT recovery space, interconnecting stair, and food service amenities.

In addition to the new workplace, the space also includes redundant infrastructure to keep four floors fully operational in the event of building power failure. Two 1.2 MW natural gas generators, central AHU retrofit, independent chiller system, separate BMS, centralized UPS, and elevator backup will allow Northern to continue business operations in the event of an electrical service interruption.

Syska provided full MEP and structured cabling design for both the workplace and supporting infrastructure for the project. The project is LEED Silver certified.
