Project Overview

Makers Quarters Block D, San Diego, California

Maker’s Quarter Block D is one project within a five-block redevelopment in East Village, San Diego. Block D is a mixed-use building made up of office, a restaurant, and retail space. The building, which totals 60,000 square feet , has six floors with five floors of office space and one floor for dining and retail.

Syska engineered the core and warm shell of Block D. The project involved new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services, including new electrical distribution, a sanitary-drainage system, and a new storm-drainage system.

We performed energy modeling and analysis in order to meet Title 24 requirements and net-zero standards. The energy modeling encompassed exterior lighting, elevators, and the domestic hot-water heating system for the restaurant and retail portion of the building. Because Block D was a warm shell project, we designed LED lighting in the lobby and provided an estimated mechanical design for future tenants. As part of the net-zero effort, we added PV panels to the roof.
