Project Overview

Governor’s Island Infrastructure Development, New York, New York

Syska performed an evaluation of and report on the existing electrical infrastructure at Governors Island. The study’s primary focus was the medium (5 kV) and high (27kV) voltage equipment. Our study included meeting with Con Edison and the designated contractors.

At the conclusion of the study, Syska developed a prioritized list of electrical infrastructure projects with associated costs. The upgrades were prioritized with the highest being safety, followed by reliability, and lastly, capacity.

In addition, we conducted a preventative maintenance program for the switchgears and circuit breakers, existing 5kV gas filled selector switches, and all of the transformers located throughout the island.

Syska is presently working on upgrading the poor medium voltage and 480v distribution infrastructure throughout the island. The upgrades will include replacement of defective switchgear, transformers, feeders and further high-voltage repairs.
