CPS Energy Mission Critical Control
and Data Center (MCCDC)

Project Overview

CPS Energy Mission Critical Control and Data Center (MCCDC), San Antonio, TX

The City Public Service Board of San Antonio, Texas, (CPS Energy) needed power, flexibility and efficiency in the design and construction of its Tier III/IV control and data center. We were brought onboard to provide engineering services for a concurrently maintainable data center that would need to support multiple operating groups across 75,000 square feet. The control center operating spaces and data processing areas were designed for improved reliability and efficiency today and to easily accommodate expansions tomorrow.

Our team worked to meet LEED® design parameters and reliability standards under the North American Electric Reliability Corporation. The ECHO Data Center replaces three data centers with a highly energy-efficient one that uses pumped refrigerant for IT cabinet cooling rather than conventional air conditioning. The new ECHO Data Center is expected to save over 4 million KW hours and 10 tons of pollution-forming nitrogen oxides annually.

As a result of these efficiency efforts, the Alamo Area Council of Governments presented CPS Energy with an Air Quality Stewardship Award. The award recognizes outstanding voluntary efforts to reduce air pollution and help improve air quality in the Alamo region.
