Project Overview

Empire State Building Observatory, New York, NY

As New York City’s most iconic and recognizable building, the Empire State Building is a highly popular tourist attraction. To enhance the overall experience for visitors, the landmark building sought to create an interactive experience throughout the spaces that visitors go through to get to the famous observatory that provides unparalleled views of Manhattan and beyond.

Syska Hennessy provided multi-discipline engineering and technology services for this 73,000 sf project, which encompasses improvements throughout the ground floor, 2nd floor, and 80th floor entrance experience spaces, and observatory spaces on the 86th and 102nd floors. This includes relocation of the Ground Floor Visitors’ entrance to a new location at the northwest corner of West 34th Street, and a complete reorganization of the 2nd and 80th floor ticketing, queuing, and exhibits showcasing the building’s history, construction and cultural significance, as well as other exhibits.
